Local Democracy and Diaspora: An event co-hosted by the Samara Centre for Democracy and The Green Line

The Samara Centre for Democracy, in partnership with Toronto local news outlet The Green Line, invites you to attend a dynamic discussion examining local democracy and diaspora. This panel conversation will explore the diverse, distinct challenges faced by different diasporic communities, how well these issues are understood by the wider public and how local democracies can evolve to effectively address these concerns. This discussion will draw on Samara Centre’s latest SAMbot report, Engagement and Abuse on Toronto's Digital Campaign Trail. A mixer will follow.

Speakers:

  • Jaskaran Sandhu of State Strategy and Baaz News
  • Cheuk Kwan from the Toronto Association for Democracy in China
  • Ryan Singh of the Indo-Caribbean Canadian Association
  • Anita Li, Editor-in-Chief and CEO of The Green Line
  • Sabreena Delhon, CEO of the Samara Centre for Democracy

Local Democracy and Diaspora takes place:

Thursday, May 23rd

5:30pm - 7pm EST

The Samara Centre for Democracy, 33 Prince Arthur Avenue, Toronto
